If you want to dramatically change the way you experience your home there is nothing that compares with great lighting. No matter how beautiful your architecture and interior design, if it is not properly lit the magic will be lost.

The combining of light sources is a critical concept to understand regarding successful lighting design. No one source of illumination can provide all the functions of lighting that are necessary in any given environment. If at all possible we combine up to four light sources: Ambient, task, decorative, and accent. Together they form a palette of light that achieves balance, harmony, and beauty.

Positioning of the fixtures is critical. For interiors, your ceiling height and your furniture arrangement are critical to how we position the fixtures to achieve both functional and artistic results. For exteriors, there are many effects that can be achieved simply by the correct placement of the fixtures.

Specifying the fixtures is an essential component of the design process. There are literally thousands of fixture options and choosing the right fixture for the right application makes the difference between a mediocre and a great result. This is also important when considering energy efficient fixtures that can provide similar light output as a standard incandescent fixture but be far more economical to operate.

To pull all of this together you must have the right controls. Dimming for almost all applications is essential to achieve the proper balance of function and elegance. No matter what the installation, there are control systems that will fit your budget and give you the options that you desire. There are even wireless dimming systems that can be retrofitted into your home or office to achieve whole house or building control from any location. Dimming cuts energy consumption significantly and is therefore a smart choice in every respect.

Finally, living “green” is important to consider. It not only saves you money, but it helps to mitigate global warming. We suggest this be taken into account when designing a new lighting system. There are many low energy fixtures on the market today that serve this cause. Fluorescent fixtures can produce the same warm color spectrum as incandescent in most cases. LED fixtures are now coming on the market that can significantly reduce energy costs even below that of fluorescent fixtures and have none of the recycling liabilities.

Lighting design is neither an art or a science but a combination of the two, Both of these elements are critical to creating the lighting "magic" that we aim to achieve.
